Imessage pitfalls and problems:

With Mavericks, you can now get imessage messages right to your computer! What could go wrong with that...?

One minor problem is that if your phone is unavailable, imessage will happily deliver the mail to your computer/ipad/ipod touch, and report it delivered, even if your phone is unavailable...

One way to tell if your are using imessage is the color of the speach ballons, green are good old text messages, and blue are new imessage ones:

Note that I had imessage turned off, and it correctly told me that it was not delivered. The blue is imessage turned on and it happily said that it delivered it, but it does not day it went to the phone.

So if you have your imessage turned on in mavericks, and your phone is not working or does not have a signal, then it will report it delivered to your computer when you were not home.

The way to fix this is to go to 'internet accounts' in user preferences and turn off your messageing though icloud.

Imessage does have 2 nice features, it lets you know if the other party is typing with the elipses, and it will send out group messages a little nicer than.

Fingerprint sensor on iphone 5s

Steve Gibson found out that you can train the fingertprint sensor. Some people recommend that you add your fingerprint a second time, but there is a better way.

If you go to the Touch ID Screen in

Genereal-> Touch ID&Passcode->TouchID

Every time you touch the button and it recognizes your finger, it will 'train' the phone with more samples. You can sit there for hours and it will do extra training for the button!

Nifty extra storage:

This is a SD tray for a MicroSD card that will slide in flush with your macbook! It comes with a 2 GB card, but you can stick in up to the max right now of 64 GB SD card for a little more storage for your Macbook if you have an SD card slot.

Fan control/ imac hard drive:

If you have an imac and replace the internal hard drive, the fan control most likley won't work, here is a nifty utlitliy that will control the fan using the SMART status of the hard drive instead of the cable:

I wholeheatedly recommend simply buying a firewire 800 or thunderbolt enclosure and using that for your boot drive instead of trying to crack open you mac! I personally bought a Hybrid hard drive and put it on a firewire 800, and it boots and runs programs much faster than the stock hard drive with no SSD.

Leaning to code:

This is a great website to teach you the very basics of coding:

What is neat is it goes all the way to really basic with buttons, to java and python coding.

G5 Games

http://www.g5e.com/

I thought some of the games were midly entertaining, they reminded me a little of myst.

There are a few free ones that are good, the red crow mysteries was free when I got it.

Clash of the Clans:

This farm is like a farmville for battle game, it make you wait to grow your troups, build things, virtually everything makes you wait seconds, minutes, and then weeks for some things.

This free game is the top grossing app store games because of the coins you can buy to get everything you have to wait for instantly!

You can find some articles on the $3000 itunes bill, but my favorite is the one who spent 20,000 and had 5 ipads going to top the leaderboards for a month.

Logmein is no longer free

Team Viewer is now the only free one available, and I suspect when all the people switch over from Logmein, Team viewer will have to start charging as well.
