The
big news this month (of course) is that tiger just came outApple made all the G5's a little faster, and the Imacs are faster with bluetooth and gigbit ethernet now. The base models now come with 512 megs of ram since tiger runs a little slow with 256.
All of the systems now come with a little better graphics cards, and any DVD burner is now dual layer!

One problem is that if you are short of ram (512 or less) it will run a little slow. One big help is to switch to dashboard and CLOSE all of the widgets. Each one uses 10 megs of ram wheter it is a fancy weather widget, or a simple little clock!
There are 200 new features in Tiger but there a few that really stand out
and the address book have lots of new features and fine tuning. The address book is now compatible with NT domains, now you can export the addresses to other programs. The Address book now has an envelope printer built in!
is a lot like Konfabulator and has a lot of wizbang widgets that are nice
is the new search engine that is integrated with the OS, it puts the old find file to shame.
Applescript now has a new pretty front end called automator. It is an easy way to make scripts (which were once impossible for the average user to even start on)
You can now create folders to be burned to a DVD or CD, just go to file in the Finder and select "New burn folder"
will now let you download photos to your computer without going through IPhoto. There is now a "Slideshow" feature right from the Finder, just select a bunch a pictures, and right click on one of them, you'll see slideshow in there!
now has a comment field! (spotlight comments) Any text you put in the comment will show up when you search for that word with Spotlight.

Note that PC users will not see any shadow effects that you make with Tiger.
Also you can tell fontbook which fonts you want to use in which applications, much like suitcase!
You can now buy printer suppies right from apple for the print dialog box, and Gimp is now easier to use. Gimp is the UNIX printer driver model, which does not have most of the bells and whisltes that you would from a genuine HP or Epson printer driver.
When you resize a movie, it will now do it in realtime with a very smooth response.
Has RSS built in. There is a nifty RSS screen saver that is worth checking out!
Bookmarks are now seachable by spotlight. You can now export your bookmarks into a file that most programs can use.
Safari now has a private browsing mode in which it will "Cover your tracks" while your surfing the internet. This is most usefull if you are at a library or someone's house and don't want safari remembering all you bank passwords!
You can now right click on a photo and save right to IPhoto.
One feature in Safari is in the preferences, you can tell Tiger not to open Safari at all for you web stuff, you can have it open another browser on you computer.

To get to the parental controls in Tiger, you must first go to System Preferences, and Accounts! Then you have to click on the lock (to unlock it) add an account for you child, and go to parental controls to set up what they can't do.
The calculator now has a "programmers" mode where it will do 1's and 0's. Or count in Hexadecimal!
Is the modern graphing calculator! It has some really nice demos
Indexes the contents of your entire drive, not just the name.
You can turn off which groups you don't want to see in the results, and change the order of them.
You can now right click on a word and look it up in the built in dictonary, or look it up on google.
Now supports the Jabber protocall, but also lets you do 4way video conferences now! It will work through most firewalls with no extra configuration. If you want an audio conferance up to 10 people can join.
Will now talk to bluetooth devices like phones with cameras.

Will let you save a photo right to IPohto. You can now show all the pictures in the email as a slideshow. There is a connection doctor to troubleshoot what is wrong with your email. It's now easier to make groups for mailing lists. If you go to Safari, it has an option to send a web page in an email.
