StMug November 2005 Meeting

New from Apple:

Apple has had a busy month.

Imac: The Imac now comes with front row. Never heard of it? Neither had I! It is a remote control that looks like the Ipod Micro that controls your mac to look at any of the multimedia content of your computer. Now you can sit back in our easy chair and browse through your music, pictures, and movies on your compter without touching the keyboard or mouse.

Itunes 6: For $1.99, you can download and watch video on your computer or a new Ipod video. Watch the latest music videos, or some TV show the day after it airs.

New G5 quad processor: Now you can buy a computer with 4 processors for only $3299! While most of us won't be buying the top of the line, the bottom of the line is now a dual core chip for about the same price the old single processor version was.

Ipod:

My 1st generation Ipod finally got down to a five minutes of battery life per charge, and I needed to do something about it!

I went to ebay and bought a 2200mah (which is bigger than the original battery power) from Tawain for $6 with $6 shipping. It took 3 weeks to get it, but you can't beat $12 for a 2200mah battery! (you can get one from the states for around $20....)

The hardest part was cracking open the Ipod with no instructions,at least it came with the plastic tool to help. Digging around the internet I found the systm has a nice video on how to crack open the Ipod Nano which is almost the same as cracking open my 1st generation ipod!

RSS feeds:

Safari has a built in RSS reader built in that is pretty good. If you need a little more configuration, Thunderbird has a RSS reader too. You can set up Thunderbird to read all your favorite news feeds right along with your email.

Gaming:

Gamehouse makes most of their games for the mac.

Aloha Solitaire is a nice solitare game that is not quite like your average solitare game and

If Aloha Solitaire was too easy, Aloha Tripeaks offers a much bigger challenge!

Caitlin likes playing Luxor, which is a fast paces puzzle game where you have to match up the colors.

Keyboard shortcut of the day:

Your might know that hitting Apple-space brings up spotlight, and typing the first few letters brings up a search, but did you know that hitting 'Apple-Return' will choose the top hit without using the mouse?
