Personal Backup

Personal backup is the most full-featured, easy to use, mac backup programs I have used. Some programs will just clone a hard drive, or just make a backup from point a to point b. But Personal backup does everything that all the other programs put together can do.

When you select backup, it lets you pick out power full features that you don't usually find like keeping multiple copies of files that your are backing up.

Personal backup has something I have NEVER seen in a backup program. It will actually warn you when the backup process you have set up is about to nuke your hard drive:

If you get this message because you are mistakenly about to overwrite a good backup or your original copies, you can safely hit stop stop script and find out what you did wrong and not loose your data! Most other backup software will just merrily overwrite a folder on your hard drive no matter how big or important it is.

The main backup screen looks like this:

It will let you schedule backups, copy files that you don't have permission to copy by letting you type in your password, and it will let you run programs before and after the backup occurs.

If you want to make a bootable carbon copy of your hard drive, it can do that in just a few mouse clicks.

And finally Personal Backup has synchronization. Most Synchronizing software is pretty full featured, this one goes the extra step again by having a choice:

It will ask you which file you want to keep if they have both changed from the last backup. And if you click on the little magnifying glass, it will show you the file in question so you can figure out which one you want.

All in all Personal Backup is a great piece of software. At 49.95, you are getting a good deal for your money. Time machine is great, but if you need to do synchronization, cloning, or selectively backup some file to a specific location; then you need more than what came with leopard.
